Chattanooga, TN - One way or another, it would be the ending of a story of historic proportions for the 14th-ranked McKendree University Softball team on Wednesday afternoon. The Bearcats (51-17) were playing the top-ranked Saint Leo Lions (54-3-1) in Game Two of the NCAA Division II National Championship Series. The Lions had brought the bats to the series opener, winning 15-4, but that version of the Bearcats did not return to Frost Stadium on Wednesday. McKendree fought tooth and nail, right up to the finish. Alas, Saint Leo still persevered to take the National Championship by a 5-2 final score. Chattanooga, TN - The 14th-ranked McKendree University Softball team continues to make history. On Tuesday, the Bearcats (51-16) took the field at Frost Stadium for their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Softball National Championship Series. That in and of itself brought additional dignitaries to Chattanooga, whether that be administratively, families, alumni, and more. On the other side was the nation's unanimously first-ranked team in the Saint Leo Lions (53-3-1), also making their first-ever Champ Series appearance. After Saint Leo made the first punch with a two-run first, McKendree punched back in a big way with a grand slam, but a counter-punch of even greater proportions got the game in the Lions' hands. Chattanooga, TN - On Sunday afternoon, vibes were high for the 14th-ranked McKendree University Softball team as they got off the bus to Frost Stadium to play in the NCAA Division II Women's College World Series Final Four. It could have been the stage they were on, the fact that they'd had Saturday off, or something else, but either way, there was a sense of immense positivity. On the other side was a stout fourth-ranked Cal State San Marcos Cougars squad, who'd just left the stadium from their previous game at 1:15 AM eastern the night prior. Alas, that extremely late night didn't seem to phase the Cougars (57-12), who punched first with a quick start, but the Bearcats (51-15) countered with a big inning. Chattanooga, TN - The 14th-ranked McKendree University Softball team was back in familiar territory on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Women's College World Series. Sure, they were still amid their first-ever appearance of this caliber, but they were back to playing a team they'd played before in 2026 - the fifth-ranked Missouri Southern State Lions. In February, McKendree (50-15) swept Missouri Southern State (54-9) in Joplin, but as the saying goes, anything can happen when it comes to the postseason. After the Bearcats had taken an early one-run lead, the Lions pounced twice over thanks to the long ball. McKendree was yet to run out of late-game excitement. They took to the field at Chattanooga's Frost Stadium for the Bearcats' first-ever appearance at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship. A stout task on paper pitted McKendree (49-15) against the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia (51-10). The two teams entered their matchup having combined for 132 home runs (66 apiece), but also with nearly identical earned run averages in the circle. Both teams found slivers of hope at the plate, but couldn't get to the run column in regulation. The National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners' Association (D2CCA) both released their All-American teams in the afternoon hours.
