(ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 18)- The No. 8 regionally ranked McKendree University men's tennis team edged No. 5 regionally ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis, 5-4, on Friday in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference men's tennis tournament to advance to the championship semifinals.
The Bearcats improved to 19-4 and will play No. 2 regionally ranked University of Indianapolis on Saturday, April 19 at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo., at 9 a.m.
McKendree picked up an early 2-1 lead following the doubles matches, and freshman
Martin Martins (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colégio Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho) tied the match, 4-4, with a win at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-3, with No. 1 singles yet to finish. Senior
Luciano Misitrano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/ORT) outlasted Nils Mueggenburg, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1 singles to clinch the 5-4 victory.
