Men's Soccer (RV) Drops Neutral Site Contest against SNU

Oklahoma trip sees unkind results for Bearcats to open 2026 campaign

CLAREMORE, Okla. | Soldier Field - McKendree Univeristy men's soccer (0-2-0, 0-0-0 GLVC) made its trip to Oklahoma an extended stay as the Bearcats faced Southern Nazarene in a neutral site game at Rogers State, falling to the Crimson Storm, 2-1. McKendree went down in the first half and tied the game behind the first career goal from midfielder Stevie Jones but was unable to keep SNU at bay in the latter moments of the contest. The Bearcats get a short break before heading out to Ohio to battle Cedarville on September 3.

The Bearcats looked to bounce back following a tough dropped contest to sixth-ranked Rogers State, facing off against a tough opponent in Southern Nazarene on Saturday. The McKendree-SNU rivalry has been created over the last few years with the programs first battling in the national tournament in 2023 at Leemon Field with the Bearcats taking the game, 1-0. McKendree went down in the first half after an eventful beginning stretch to the day with SNU firing a goal in the 20th minute. The Crimson Storm led 1-0 at the intermission while the Bearcats put up seven shots with three corners and on-frame attempts.

McKendree's second half saw the first goal of the campaign for head coach Scott Gyllenborg's squad as the freshman Jones netted his first collegiate goal (62nd minute) with assists getting dished out by senior midfielder Lenny Dupoyet and sophomore defender Alonso Romero. McKendree and SNU remained locked at one goal a piece until the final 10 minutes. SNU scored in the 81st, marking the decisive score, as the Bearcats could not muster another goal in the remaining time.

10 Bearcats fired shots with Jones leading behind four total and three on-goal while three others sent two shots in the contest.
